•Onceadepartureprocedureisactivated,theCDIisscaledfordeparture(0.3nm).
•Thesystemswitchesfromdeparturetoterminal CDI scaling (1.0 nm) under the following conditions:
- The next leg in the departure procedure is not aligned with the departure runway
- ThenextleginthedepartureprocedureisnotaCA,CD,CF,CI,CR,DF,FA,FC,FD,FM,IF,orTF(see
Glossary for leg type definitions)
- AfteranyleginthedepartureprocedurethatisnotaCAorFA
•At30nmfromthedepartureairport,theenroute phase of flight is automatically entered and CDI scaling
changesto2.0nmoveradistanceof1.0nm,exceptunderthefollowingconditions:
- When navigating with an active departure procedure, the flight phase and CDI scale does not change
untiltheaircraftarrivesatthelastdeparturewaypoint(ifmorethan30nmfromthedepartureairport)or
the leg after the last departure waypoint has been activated or a direct-to waypoint is activated.
•Ifaftercompletingthedepartureprocedurethenearestairportismorethan200nmawayfromtheaircraft
and the approach procedure has not yet commenced, the CDI is scaled for oceanicight(2.0nm).
•Within31nmofthedestinationairport(terminalarea),theCDIscalegraduallyrampsdownfrom2.0nm
to1.0nmoveradistanceof1.0nm;exceptunderthefollowingconditions:
- Uponreachingtherstwaypointofanarrivalroutethatismorethan31nmfromthedestinationairport,
theightphasechangestoterminalandtheCDIscalebeginstotransitiondownfrom2.0nmto1.0nm
over a distance of 1.0 nm.
•Duringapproach,theCDIscalerampsdownevenfurther(Figures2-24and2-25).Thistransitionnormally
occurswithin2.0nmofthenalapproachx(FAF).TheCDIswitchestoapproachscalingautomatically
once the approach procedure is activated or if Vectors-To-Final (VTF) are selected.
- IftheactivewaypointistheFAF,thegroundtrackandthebearingtotheFAFmustbewithin45°ofthe
final approach segment course.
- If the active waypoint is part of the missed approach procedure, the active leg and the preceding missed
approach legs must be aligned with the final approach segment course and the aircraft must not have
passed the turn initiation point.
