Combination Extensions

Combination Extensions
A
combination extension
is an extension with two devices connected to it—either
two standard devices, or a system phone and a standard device (but
not
two
system phones). (For instructions on how to install a combination extension, see
the
PARTNER Endeavor Communications System Installation
guide.)
The following are examples of useful combination extensions:
■ System phone plus standard telephone, for power failure backup on
extension 10. A standard phone can only receive calls during a power
failure at extension 10.
■ System phone plus answering machine
■ System phone plus fax machine
■ System phone plus an external alert (such as a bell or chime)
■ System phone plus headset, connect headsets and other adjunct
equipment that do not require incoming ringing to any port or through the
AUX jack on a PARTNER Endeavor telephone.
The telephones in a combination extension share a single extension in the same
way several home telephones share a single line. A system telephone works as it
always does and a standard telephone works as it always does when connected
to the system.
Only one phone or device can be used at a time
, unless you want to
join the two on a single call (the same way two people can pick up the same call
on different telephones at home). For example:
■ Both phones share the same extension number.
■ Both phones share the same
voice path
; that is, when either phone is busy,
the extension is busy.
■ Calls ring at both phones.
■ A second call can ring at the system phone while the standard phone is
busy, but do not use the system phone to answer the second call until the
standard phone is idle or the first call will be disconnected.
NOTE:
Standard phones can be used to make calls when plugged into any port of
the PARTNER Endeavor 362 processor module or 362EC expansion
module. However, standard phones will ring only when plugged into the Tip
Ring ports, which are the bottom two ports.
■ If you make a voice-signaled intercom call to a combination extension with
a system phone, only the system phone signals.
■ Call Waiting (#316) does not work on a standard phone in combination
with a system phone.
