connectorsusedwithyourXstream.

IMPORTANT!
Be very careful to label wiring using RJ- style connectors. In some cases, they have
power on them, and there is a risk of applying this power to something that does not
expect it. For this reason we suggest that you use different colored cables (or connector
boots) on the ISDN S interface cables versus your Desktop Director & Ethernet cables

Itisrecommendedpracticetoinstallmodularwalljackssuchthatthepinsareatthetopofthe
cavitywhenviewed.Thishelpstoprotectthecontactsfromwaterwhenbaseboardsare
mopped,andfromdust.Whenthejackisorientedinthisposition(i.e.lookingint
othejackwith
thecontactpinsatthetop)thepinsaresequentiallynumberedlefttoright.
Notethatsomejacksmaynothaveallpinpositionspopulated,howeverthenumberingwould
stillbeginwiththefirstposition.Forinstance,the"RJ‐11"stylejackisa6‐positi
on4‐pinjack.
Therefore,ithaspins2,3,4,&5.Pins1&6maybeabsent.Notethatallbutafewofthe
followingcablesuse8‐position8‐pinminiaturemodularconnectors(RJ‐45style)onbothends.
Intoday’srapidlychangingfacilities,itisworthconsideringusingauniversalsystemformostof
thesecables.Thisstrategyallowsthemostflexibili
tysincethesamewiringconfigurationcould
bereusedforadifferentpurposewithoutdoinganythingbutdocumentingthechange!
Therefore,werecommendthatyouusetheTIA/EIA‐568‐AT568Acablespecification.This
specifiesaCategory5(Cat.5)cablewith4pairswiredstraightthrough(bo
thendswired
identically)asfollows:
