12.1 Ancillary Data
Serial Data Transmission
TheserialinterfacecanbeusedtocontroltheZephyrXstream,i.e.tochangetransmission
modesorrequeststatusinformation.ATelnetsessioncanalsobeusedtoperformthis
function.
Theserialinterfacecanbeswitchedtotransparentorancillarydatamodeusingtheatdt
command.
Whilethetra
nsparentmodeisactive,alldatasenttotheZephyrXstream'sserialinputis
insertedintothecodedaudiosignaland–providedthereisanvalidISDN,V.35,orIPconnection
–transmittedtothereceivingZephyr.Thelatterwillextractancillarydatainformationfromthe
codedaudiosignalandou
tputitonitsownserialinterfaceifitisintransparentmode.
• Theancillarydatatransmissionisfullybi‐directionalanddoesnotaffectany
ongoingaudiotransmission.Thenecessarybitratetotransmitancillary
data,however,istakenfromtheoverallavailablelinebitrate.
• AncillarydatathatisfedintotheZephyrXstreamwithouthavinga
conne
ctionwillbelost.
• InDual/Monotransmitmodeancillarydataistransmittedtobothsites.In
Dual/Monoreceivemodeancillarydataline2isignored.
• Theancillarydatachannelisanon‐demandservice,whichmeansthatthe
audiobitrateisonlyreducedifnecessary.However,datacanbe
transmittedcontinuouslyatupto9600kbps(St
ereoandMono‐128)or
