User’s Guide 14–2
Using Security Features
Ä
CAUTION: HP ProtectTools helps protect your HP iPAQ and the
data stored on it. If you are unable to access your device with any of
the above methods, there is no way to unlock your device. You have
to restore your device to factory settings, resulting in the loss of all
data on your HP iPAQ, including data stored in iPAQ File Store. It is
recommended that you remember your PIN/password and
question/answer.
If you are unable to access your device, you will still be able to use
your mobile phone to make and receive calls, and data stored on
your SIM card will not be lost. However, you will not be able to
access other applications (such as Contactsm, Tasks, or Notes) from
the phone application until you unlock your device.
Setting Up Security
You should only need to set up security one time. You can make
changes to any of your security settings at a later time without
going through the setup procedure again. Refer to “Manage
Security Settings” later in this chapter for more information.
To set up security on your HP iPAQ:
1. Tap Start > Settings > Personal tab >HP ProtectTools.
2. The security configuration screen displays the message “Do
you want to configure HP ProtectTools security on your
device?” Tap Yes.
3. On the Lock Settings screen, select your choices for the
following:
❏ Lock device—secures device by requiring your PIN or
