Using Security Features
The widespread use of Pocket PC devices has significantly
increased employee productivity. However, non-secured or
inadequately secured Pocket PC devices are creating network
security issues for the corporate workplace when they connect to
a secure network.
Valuable information is bypassing network security and being
stored on inadequately secured Pocket PC devices. The HP
ProtectTools security features provide on-device security
protection so there is less risk of losing sensitive information on
your HP iPAQ.
Using HP ProtectTools
HP ProtectTools helps protect your HP iPAQ by providing
authentication and encryption of e-mail, calendar, contacts, notes,
tasks, and/or all files stored in the My Documents folder. It can
also be used to encrypt data stored on expansion cards.
When you enable HP ProtectTools, you have the option of
entering a PIN and/or password to access the HP iPAQ. If you
forget your PIN or password, you can access the device with a
backup question and answer or contact your administrator to
manually authenticate.
Note: HP ProtectTools does not replace or interact with the
security on your mobile phone’s SIM card. While you can use the
same PIN and/or password for both HP ProtectTools and your
SIM card, it is recommended, for maximum security, that you use
different PINs and/or passwords.
