CHAPTER 11. GLOSSARY
Link
A transmitter-receiver channel or system that connects two locations (for example,
the link between the System and the customer-supplied Property Management
System).
Principal (User)
In terms of Call Coverage or Bridging, a person for whom a call was originally
intended.
Private Network
A network used exclusively for handling the telecommunications needs of a particular
customer.
Public Network
The network that can be openly accessed by all customers for local or long-distance
calling.
Queue
An ordered sequence of calls waiting to be processed.
Queuing
The process of holding calls in order of their arrival to await connection to an
attendant, to an answering group, or to an idle trunk. Calls are automatically
connected in first-in, first-out sequence.
Recall Dial Tone
Three short bursts of tone followed by steady dial tone; indicates the system has
completed some action (such as holding a call) and is ready to accept dialing.
Redirection Criteria
The information administered for each voice terminal’s coverage path that determines
when an incoming call is redirected to coverage.
Reorder Tone
A fast-busy tone repeated 120 times a minute; indicates that at least one of the
facilities, such as a trunk or a digit transmitter, required for the call was not available
at the time the call was placed.
