they must use the system Hold feature by using the FLASH button.

The red Message light flashes when a message is left for the user. It goes off when the user
retrieves the message. The Message light also serves as a visual ringing indicator by flashing
quickly while the telephone is ringing.

telephone numbers and extensions.
Other Physical Features
Ringing
The 8101 telephone has electronic tone ringing. The ringer volume control is a 3-position switch
on the right side of the housing.
Positive Disconnect
The 8101 has a switch with which the user can select positive disconnect or turn it off. In the ON
position, this switch hangs up the phone for approximately two seconds, even if the switchhook
depression is for a shorter duration. This action prevents inadvertent switchhook flashes. To ini-
tiate a switchhook flash in this mode, the FLASH button must be pressed. In the OFF position,
switchhook functioning is normal.
