network in a PBX is controlled by the PBX processing element in the
processor port network (PPN).
pooled
modems
Shared “conversion resources” (modems and data modules) that provide
cost-effective access to analog facilities by data terminals. When
necessary, modem pooling inserts a conversion resource into the path of
a data call. Modem pooling serves both outgoing and incoming calls.
port A data- or voice-transmission access point on a device that is used for
communicating with other devices.

network
A network used exclusively for the telecommunications needs of a
particular customer.
processor

proxy The mechanism in which one system emulates another system in
responding to protocol requests. Proxy systems are used in network
management to avoid having to implement full protocol stacks in devices
like modems.
Proxy Agent Software that converts management information from a DEFINITY G3 PBX
into a format that your network management system can understand.
proxy string The second element of the community name. For the Proxy Agent, this
string is always “g3mgt.”
public
network
The network that can be openly accessed by all customers for local or
long-distance calling.
