Making Calls

To put a call on hold
Press (HOLD).
The DIGITAL SP-PHONE indicator light goes out and
the line indicator ashes.
The line status icon on the handset also ashes.
If a call is kept holding for 6 minutes, an alarm tone
will start to sound. After 4 additional minutes on hold
the call will be disconnected.
To release the hold
From the base unit, press the line button whose indicator is ashing.
From the handset, press the left soft key ( ) or the middle soft key
( ) for the line.
If another phone is connected on the same line (p. 102), you can also release the
hold by lifting its handset.
What the line indicators mean

Off The line is free.
On The line is being used.
Flashing
A call is on hold within this system (handset or base unit)
or the Answering System is responding to a call
(p. 84).
Flashing quickly
A call is being received.
Answering Calls
When a call is received, the unit rings and Incoming call and the
called line are displayed. The line status icon ashes quickly on the
handset display and the line indicator ashes quickly on the base unit.
The line is automatically selected when you answer the call. (To change
the line selection, see page 80.)
If you subscribe to a Caller ID service, the calling party information will be
displayed after the rst ring (p. 40). In order to view the Caller ID
information, please wait until the second ring to answer a call.
Two calls can be handled simultaneously on separate telephone lines by
the handset and the base unit, or by two handsets (when the system has
one or more additional handsets, p. 31).
