Using the stylus
To interact with the handheld, use the stylus to tap on the touch screen. To use the
stylus, remove it from its holder in the top left corner of the handheld, and hold the
stylus as you would hold a pen or pencil.
There are three types of action you can perform with the stylus:
If at any time the touch screen does not respond properly to stylus taps, realign it. For
more information, see Screen, page 38.
Accessing help
To access help, tap / Help or, if available, tap in the application window. If there
is an application running, context-sensitive help for the current screen appears. To
view the main Help Contents page, tap the Contents softkey in the menu bar.
Help files installed on the handheld work in the same way as a Web page. Tap
hyperlinks to navigate around the help and use to retrace your steps. Tap View /
Contents to return to the Contents page for the application, and tap View / All Installed
Help to return to the main Contents page.
Entering text
The handheld does not have a physical keyboard. To enter text, use an on-screen
keyboard. Alternatively, you can write directly onto the screen.
You can select how you want to enter text using the Input Panel. The Input Panel
automatically appears in the menu bar of any application. The default selection is the
on-screen keyboard.
To change the text input method:
1. In the menu bar, tap the arrow on the
Input Panel button. (You may have to
activate and then hide the keyboard for the arrow to appear.)
A list of input methods pops up. The currently selected method is indicated by a
check mark.
2. Tap the method you want to use to select it.
Action Definition
Tap Touch the screen once with the stylus to open items and select options.
Tap and hold Tap and hold the stylus on an item to see a list of actions available for that
item. On the pop-up menu that appears, tap the action you want to perform.
Drag Hold the stylus on the screen and drag across the screen to select text and
images. Drag in a list to select multiple items.
