Objectives
This guide describes how to install, cable, and configure the Cisco ATA 186 and Cisco ATA 188 for use
on a Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) network. Included are configuration steps for network
parameters, standard services, supplementary services, and MGCP protocol-specific services. This
guide also includes reference information for all configuration methods, call-flows, and safety.
This guide does not cover information related to the implementation of an MGCP Voice over IP (VoIP)
network.
Audience
This guide is intended for service providers and network administrators who administer VoIP services
using the Cisco ATA 186 and Cisco ATA 188. The tasks described in this guide are not intended for end
users of the Cisco ATA 186 and Cisco ATA 188. Many of these tasks impact the ability of the
Cisco ATA 186 and Cisco ATA 188 to function on the network, and require an understanding of IP
networking and telephony concepts.
