7 APRS NETWORKS

Although UITRACE using the normal APRS network path of WIDEn-N can be a problem if mobiles
activate their digipeater at the wrong time, it is also so powerful, that it is a shame not to be able to
use it easily if required. For this reason, all APRS mobiles are encouraged to activate the
UITRACE permanently, BUT using the alias of TEMP instead of WIDE. This makes the mobile
always possible to use as a TEMPn-N digipeater while avoiding the problem of adding
interference to the normal use of WIDEn-N.

7.4.4 Configuration Examples (U.S.A.)
Two configuration examples are shown below.
Example 1:
This example shows configuration for a typical TM-D710A/E mobile installation for general use in
routine operation.
UIDIGI
UIDIGI: OFF
ALIAS: WIDE1-1
(This allows this mobile to become a first-hop digipeater by simply configuring UIDIGI to On.)
UIFLOOD
UIFLOOD: OFF
ALIAS: NONE
SUBSTITUTION: ID
(This is not used. If this mobile is needed as a temporary digipeater, then this field can be used in
support of SSn-N. But if WIDEn-N temporary support is needed, then the UITRACE command
can be used.)
UITRACE
UITRACE: ON
ALIAS: TEMP
(This allows TM-D700A/E, TM-D710A/E or RC-D710 to always be a temporary digipeater at any
time and anywhere in support of the TEMPn-N path.)
Example 2:
This is a general recommendation for permanent digipeaters installed at a high location.
