RANSLATION
By enabling port translation, IP packets are modified
as they pass through this interface. During transmis-
sion, private addresses are translated into a single
public (NAPT) IP address. Incoming packets are
translated from the public to private address based on
the protocol port numbers. Once enabled, you must
set up NAT for use.

The port translation requires at least a single real IP
address for translating. This value can use the IP as-
signed to the interface (or assigned via layer 2 proto-
col like PPP), obtained using DHCP client, or
statically specifiedon thismenu. If theaddress cannot
be learned, then it must be specified in order for the
translation to work.

ODE
The public IP address used for this translation
entry can be the NAPT IP address assigned to the
link or can be specified. You specify anaddress to
direct packets with certain protocols to different
servers.
P
ROTOCOL
The upper layer protocol that is to be monitored
for translation. For TCP and UDP, a port number
must also be specified.

The private IP address can be specified to steer
certain protocols and ports to specific servers in
the private network. Likewise, internal hosts can
be steered to certain servers on the public
network. A new request from the public network
matching this entry’s public parameters will be
dropped if this mode is set to A

By default, the application payload in the packet
is scanned for occurrences of the private/public IP
addressin binary or ASCIIform. Set this to

applications where this will cause problems.
