Instant messaging
OBTAIN USER NAME AND PASSWORD
Before you can begin to use instant messaging, you must obtain a user name and
password. You can do this by registering over the Internet (using your computer)
with the IM service provider you have selected to use. During the registration
process you will have the opportunity to create the user name and password of
your choice. For more information about signing up for instant messaging services,
contact your wireless service provider.
LOG INTO SERVICE
The first time you use instant messaging, you will need to enter your user name and
password and select the network you want to use, in order to log into the service.
After the first login, you will not have to select the network again, unless you want
to change it. See
“Instant messaging settings” on page 111 for more information.
Every time you log in, you will receive screen prompts for your user name and
password. You do not have to manually enter your user name (the user name you
entered previously appears on the User ID screen); however, you must manually
enter your password every time you log in. To log in for the first time, perform the
following steps:
1 From the menus, select IM > Login and the network to which you want to
connect.
A confirmation note appears, then the User ID screen.
2 Enter your user name, and select Options > OK.
The Password screen appears.
3 Enter your password, and select Options > OK.
Logging in appears, then Logged in, followed by the IM online menu.
After you have logged into instant messaging initially, you have the option of
a manual login or an automatic login. See
