Question About VTech Cordless Telephone None

I lost my power and have the 2.4 GHz digital answering machine. I was able to record my outgoing message, but when I call my phone, I get the outgoing message and leave a message but it does not register on the phone as a message. Not sure if this is making any sense. Maybe the storm did damage to the phone or answering system? Help.
