Question About Toshiba Telephone DP5000-Series

The manual states that to change the 'beeps on the digital phone, I should Press the Hold button together with 3, 6 and 9 and then press 0. Nothing happens. It says that I should press the FB1 to toggle on and off but nothing appears when I do that. It's very frustrating when the manual doesn't help with the questions I have.
