phone doesn't work when the power is off. seems l...

phone doesn't work when the power is off. seems like the landline ought to still work, even thought the caller id part does. Not sure why it stopped working, but I bought it as a landline to operate whether or not house had electricity. SN C1490875 suggestions would be appreciated.
