Why does the phone say initializing?...

Our phone keeps initializing, we get two minutes on a phone call then get cut off. Initializing again. No dial tone. Other phones plugged into the jack work ok. What's wrong with the $100 phone? Even had phone company check our line - no problem. What to we do?
