When I place a phone in the base unit it changes f...

When I place a phone in the base unit it changes from showing "Philips" in the display to "Warning"- the only way I can make it show "Philips" again is by taking out the batteries and wait a while before replacing them. What can cause this failure? How can it be corrected?
