my handset says "searching" and I cannot get a dial tone. what do I do?

4 Make sure your base station is turned on, and I mean the main base station. Mine is the answering machine one, and when my phone started flashing "Searching" I noticed my base station didn't have any of it's red lights on. I forgot that for the outlet I had it plugged into, I had to keep a certain light switch flipped up in order to keep electricity flowing to the outlet. :) So make sure your base stations are up and working to fix your problem!

1 it is trying to connect with the base and until then you will have no dial tone, maybe you should try to register it again, instructions should be on/in the box

0 I have exaactly the same problem with a new handset but have tried to registered it four times without success.
