what does "line in use" mean

5 It simply means that the outgoing phone line is being used by another handset or device on the same line. If this is a multi-line system (IE: an office), then typically just waiting will solve the problem. If it's a single line like a home, check all your phones in the house to make sure they are properly hung up.
