volume indicator occasionally comes on the master ...

volume indicator occasionally comes on the master at 29, replacing time display and cannot turn off, or turn down volume. the only solution is to hit tone button until it cycles back to current time display. This works for a while, and then the problem occurs again. What is the solution?
