virtual memory erase...

how do i erase the virtual memory -the phone beeps 31 times before the long beep indicating leave a message-the mini-tape is clear of messages but the electronic message indicator has not cleared and does not clear the beeps are still there how can i get rid of the message indicator beeps? help please john weir
