remote access to answering machine...

We cannot remotely access our machine using the access code. It just stopped doing this on it's own

0 We suddenly last week lost the ability to dial home and play our messages. Could this have been caused by a power outage we suffered last week? Have forgotten the model number (at work now) but recall that the machine is probably about 6 or 7 years old now. Thank you in advance for any help anyone can give.
