I bought a landline for my kitchen wall. The telephone cord is attached to the handset, not the base. It should be attached to the base and the handset to the base. As is, the phone doesn't work. What am I doing wrong. The handset works when I plug it into my modem, but I need a phone that is not dependent upon electricity.
