When engaged to a caller, ie, electric,gas supplie...

When engaged to a caller, ie, electric,gas supplier, they ask me to choose a service by pressing a button on my phone, either 1, 2,3, etc. my buttons do not activate their services, yet I can use the buttons to make the call!
