hookup to multiple line phone...

wall jacks 1-2 and 3-4. Phone jacks 1*-2 *and 2*-3** Want message to line 2 only. Connect basecord to 2-3,. 1-2 to 1*-2* and 2*-3* to machine marked PHONE. When line 2 rings machine does not give message.
