When I try to use the phone it says "No link to base. Move closer to base, try again." I can stand right in front of the base, it doesn't work. I have verified that my lines are fine. If I unplug the base and plug in my old telephone, it works. What is wrong?

The cordles handset does not work, i always get the message "no link to base, place on cradle and try again" Have tried everything, plugging the AC adapter again, the antenna is fully extended, still have the same problem.
