Keep the radios dry; if they get wet, wipe
them dry immediately. Use and store the
radios only in normal temperature
environments. Handle the radios carefully;
do not drop them. Keep the radios away
from dust and dirt, and wipe them with a
damp cloth occasionally to keep them
looking new.

Each radio requires three AAA batteries
(not supplied) for power. Batteries are
available at your local RadioShack store or
online at
www.radioshack.com
. You can
also use Ni-Cd/Ni-MH rechargeable
batteries in the radio and recharge them
using an optional 6V, series regulated, 1A
AC/DC adapter, available at your local
RadioShack store. It takes 6 hours for Ni-
CD and 12 hours for Ni-MH batteries to
charge.
1. Remove the belt clip by pulling up the
tab and sliding the belt clip upward.
Then slide the battery compartment
cover downward.
2. Set CHG ON/OFF to ON if you use
rechargeable batteries or to OFF if
you use non-rechargeable batteries.

polarity symbols (+ and -) marked
inside.
4. Replace the cover and the belt clip.

If you use non-rechargeable
batteries, be sure to set CHG
ON/OFF to OFF. Non-
rechargeable batteries can get
hot and explode if you try to
recharge them.

When power is low, the radio beeps and
flashes. Replace or recharge the batteries.

the purchase price. All replaced parts and products, and products on which a refund is made, become the property of RadioShack. New or reconditioned parts and products may be used in
the performance of warranty service. Repaired or replaced parts and products are warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period. You will be charged for repair or replacement of
the product made after the expiration of the warranty period.
This warranty does not cover: (a) damage or failure caused by or attributable to acts of God, abuse, accident, misuse, improper or abnormal usage, failure to follow instructions, improper in-
stallation or maintenance, alteration, lightning or other incidence of excess voltage or current; (b) any repairs other than those provided by a RadioShack Authorized Service Facility; (c) con-

Your radios might cause TV or radio interference
even when they are operating properly. To
determine whether your radios are causing the
interference, turn them off. If the interference goes
away, your radios are causing it. Eliminate the
interference by:
• Moving your radios away from the receiver.
• Calling your local RadioShack store for help.
Using your radios as described in this manual
exposes you to RF energy well below the FCC's
recommended limits.
If your radios are not performing as they should,
take them to your local RadioShack store for
assistance. Modifying or tampering with the
radio's internal components can cause a
malfunction and might invalidate their warranty
and void your FCC authorization to operate them.

Channels 8 through 14 on your radios transmit on
FRS frequencies. Channels 1 through 7 and 15
through 22 on your radios transmit on GMRS
frequencies. You must have a license from the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
before you can transmit on Channels 1 through 7
and 15 through 22.

Before any person transmits on any channel
authorized in the GMRS from any point within or
over the territorial limits of any area where radio
services are regulated by the FCC, the respon-
sible party must obtain a license for a GMRS
system. Any individual 18 years of age, or older,
who is not a representative of a foreign govern-
ment is eligible to apply for a GMRS license.
Application for a GMRS system license is made
on FCC Form 605, and you can obtain a copy
from the FCC’s website at

• Do not open your radio to make any internal
adjustments. Your radio is set up to transmit a
regulated signal on an assigned frequency. It is
against the law to alter or adjust the settings inside
the radio to exceed those limitations. Any
adjustments made to your radio must be made by a
qualified technician using the proper test equipment.
Never open your radio's case. Never change or
replace anything in your radio except the batteries.

Recycling Seal on the nickel-cadmium
(Ni-Cd) battery indicates RadioShack
is voluntarily participating in an
industry program to collect and recycle
these batteries at the end of their
useful life, when taken out of service in the United
States or Canada. The RBRC program provides a
convenient alternative to placing used Ni-Cd
batteries into the trash or the municipal waste
stream, which may be illegal in your area. Please call
1-800-THE-SHACK (1-800-843-7422) for information
on Ni-Cd battery recycling and disposal bans/
restrictions in your area. RadioShack’s involvement

required size and recommended

batteries, different types of
batteries (standard, alkaline, or

radios for a month or more,
remove the batteries. Batteries
can leak chemicals that can
destroy electronic parts.

You can power the radios from a standard
AC outlet or even your vehicle using a 6V,
series regulated, 1A AC/DC adapter and a
size H Adaptaplug™ adapter (neither
supplied). Both are available at your local
RadioShack store.

If the radio’s display locks up or the radio
does not work properly after you turn it on,
turn it off then turn it on again. If this does
not correct the problem, reset the radio by
turning it off then holding down

turning it on again.
The radio might not turn on in some cases
after you replace the batteries. If this
happens, remove the batteries from the
battery compartment, wait about 10
minutes, then reinstall them.
You can attach an optional wrist strap or
pager chain (not supplied, available at
your local RadioShack store) to the hole
on the back of the radio.

You can set the radio so a confirmation
tone sounds when you release PTT. The
tone alerts the person you are talking to
that you have finished talking.
C-TONE
appears when this setting is activated.

Battery Life
This chart shows the appropriate battery life during two-way
use for alkaline, Ni-Cd, and Ni-MH batteries.
Two-way use is defined as 90% standby time, 5% talk time,
and 5% receive time.
