dailing out?
I can dial any # that does not contain a 6. As soon as I press 6 the phone goes into a mode where it tries to connect to a non-existing voice mail or mail box. It is useless as I live in area code 610. ???

Dialing Out
From the manual I cannot see where dialing a 6 would cause it to go into any other mode. From the trouble shooting section for the problem of "Dial tone is OK, but can't dial out", it says to "Check to make sure the TONE/PULSE switch on the base is correctly set". This is the only suggestion the book has for dialing problems. Questions: Is this phone new, never been set up before? Has it ever worked properly for you? Can you connect another phone to this line and dial out and receive calls? Plug something into the electical outlet you are using to make sure the outlet is working properly? Do you know for sure the battery is good? Can you recieve calls in to this phone and actually talk? Can you receive calls and have them go to the answering machine? Can you listed to these messages and then erase them? Can you retrieve messages remotely? Does your 3 digit remote access coed contain a 6? I have a "new" in box, never been used GE cordless phone with caller ID and an answering machine that took the same battery, but the battery was low. I noticed that if the battery is low it still works but some functions may not work properly. In this case you could dial out but all of the display functions including caller ID did not show up. I then put a new battery in and the caller ID showed up. Since the 26690 does not have caller ID, I concluded that a low battery could cause some functions not to work correctly.
