direct connect

when i use my direct connect it only stays in que for 20 seconds sometimes. Can i change that to stay in que longer? in que i mean; i use the direct connect and the person responds, i go to respond back in 20 seconds or so and i have to open the phone back up and select the person i was just speaking with.Instead of just using the direct connect button.
